Koha latest version 25.05

The Koha library software team at Catalyst IT is delighted to share the Koha latest version 25.05. This release contains 5 new features, 186 enhancements to existing features and 481 bug fixes.

What is Koha?

Koha is the first free and open source software library automation package (ILS). Development is sponsored by libraries of varying types and sizes, volunteers, and support companies from around the world.

What’s new in Koha 25.05

Koha 25.05 comes with many improvements including the enhanced visibility of database problems and increased detail modifications to patron and catalogue records in the log viewer tool. 

Some of the improvements include:

Accessibility

Accessibility enhancements in Koha include:

  • 39237 HTML title in head tag doesn’t correspond to page title of the “Your summary” page in OPAC
  • 39356 Accessibility 1.3.1: There are pages where heading levels are skipped

This fixes some accessibility issues on OPAC pages where heading levels are missing or skipped. It adds headings where they are missing, or changes the heading levels in the cases where they were incorrect.

Circulation

Circulation enhancements in Koha allow you to:

  • Add the option to define the charge for late hold pick-ups in the circulation rules. If no value is defined in the circulation rules, the value set in the ExpireReservesMaxPickUpDelayCharge system preference will be used
  • Add validation to the rental discount field in the circulation rules table
  • When checking out mnultiple items, check patrons current check outs and see new confirmation message “Patron has this title currently checked out:…” so that librarians can / have to confirm if item will be check out to patron
  • Add columns to bundles table which includes the copynumber information
  • And more

Database

The Database new features and enhacements in Koha allow you to:

  • Keep the data of deleted authority records, similar to deletedbiblio_metadata and other related tables
  • Increase the length of the inventory number field in database (from 32 to 80 characters)

Fines n fees

Fines n fees enhancements include:

  • Ability to make notes on all entries in patron transactions table
  • Ability to send email receipts for payments / writeoff manually instead of automatically – providing more flexibility and control over patron communication
  • Ability to edit notes in account transactions table
  • Configure additional fields for debit types
  • And more

Other improvements include

  • Smoother registration experience
  • Ability to toggle the password visibility
  • Staff notifications of new users
  • Simpler troubleshooting
  • Bulk user updates
  • Easier insights to changes via the Log Viewer tool
