Supporting Federation University in delivering human centred digital solutions.

Federation University Australia aims to “deliver outstanding learner experiences, job-ready graduates and innovative research that will drive the growth of our regions”, as set out in the University’s 2040 strategic plan.

Seeing human centred digial solutions as one of the core enablers in delivering on their vision, Federation University (FedUni) have been partnering with Catalyst IT Australia for the last 13 years.

Collaboration, innovation and excellence are the values that both, FedUni and Catalyst, live and share. This helped us work together effectively over the years to successfully deliver multiple education technology projects. This includes seamless integrations, improved workflows and platforms that are fit for the University’s future growth.

At Catalyst, it means a lot to our team when our clients see us as their trusted advisors. It is always a privilege to be invited to the table to discuss opportunities, and work together on solutions that will enable our client’s strategic priorities. Federation University’s strategy briefing and networking session last week was one such event – the one that reminds you that true, long-term partnerships matter.

Joining the FedUni staff, and a select group of vendors, were Catalyst IT Australia’s newly appointed Managing Director, Alex Lawn; General Manager of Client Services, James Williams; and Technical Team Lead, Misha Golenkov.

Executive Director of Fed Services, Matt Carmichael set the tone with a compelling presentation of FedUni’s strategic direction for the rest of 2026 and beyond – a vision centred on building a cooperative university model that responds to the changing needs of students and our broader community. We discussed what it may take to bring the University and their stakeholders forward, and how we can collaborate on making that happen.

Building on our 13-year relationship, during which we developed solutions to various challenges, and built something that goes well beyond a service agreement, the team at Catalyst IT Australia are excited about the new work ahead.

“Afternoons like this one, full of candid conversations and new ideas sparked across a room full of passionate people, are a reminder of what solid relationships are built on,” said Alex Lawn. “Trust, out of the box thinking and commitment to excellence is something we deeply care about at Catalyst. It is very rewarding for our entire team to work with clients who share the same values.”

Special thanks to Erin Penny and the entire Federation University team for bringing this community together and for the spirit of openness and collaboration that defined the day.

We look forward to the next chapter in working together to bring outstanding learner experiences for FedUni students, and to deliver on the University’s vision for the future.
