Your educator experience just got better: introducing Moodle 5.1
Moodle LMS 5.1 release is here with enhancements that will make teaching and learning easier, including:
- simpler course building
- more control over AI at the course level
- reduced admin complexity = improved daily workflows
Building on 5.0, Moodle LMS 5.1 reflects continuous improvements in the Product Roadmap that are designed to save time, reduce clutter and make Moodle LMS easier to use.
“Behind every new feature, improvement and fix are the efforts of our amazing Moodle community, our partners, and the Moodle LMS team,” said Matt Porritt, Product Director – Platform Solutions at Moodle. “We deeply appreciate everyone who helped bring Moodle LMS 5.1 to life.”
Here is an overview of the improvements:
The Activities overview page is expanded and better organised.
Moodle LMS 5.0 enabled an overview of all Assignment activity – due dates and required actions in a single view. Moodle LMS 5.1 takes it a step further. The Activities overview page now incorporates all major activities including forums, quizzes, H5P, wikis, lessons and more.
As a result, teachers have better (single-view) visibility of what needs to be done, while learners have a clear view of completed work and upcoming tasks.
The Activity chooser redesign.
In the Activity chooser, activities are now grouped by teaching purpose – assessment, collaboration, communication, resources and interactive content, with related tools suggested for each.
This improvement is in line with the ‘instructional design led’ approach to teaching – it starts with a core goal in mind before you make decisions about the tools that can help deliver on that goal.
More so, admin teams can customise the Activity chooser’s ‘purpose categories’ to fit their organisation’s priorities.
There are many benefits to this approach, including a more effective and engaging teaching and learning experience, and a more intuitive navigation for those who are new to Moodle.
Better AI controls.
Switching AI options on and off at a course level, and configuring AI settings per activity is easy in Moodle 5.1, and a broader range of AI providers is now available.
This offers more flexibility for individual institution policies; and lets educators decide what fits best with their teaching and learning strategies.
As you may have noticed Moodle LMS 5.1 has a strong ‘built by educators, for educators’ focus.
Other notable improvements in this release, making educators’ life easier include:
- Improved course creation tools
- Enhancements to course enrollment and management
- Cleaner interface
- Extra security features
Designed to streamline your daily workflows, Moodle LMS 5.1 is an exciting new milestone on the Moodle Product Roadmap, with the end user and technical excellence being it’s guiding stars.
