Catalyst IT delivers a range of Design and UX services to our many clients, and we are looking for an experienced Visual Designer who is keen to take a step up to managing our design services. This is a full time role based in our Wellington office.
The focus of your role is to ensure our small Visual Design team is well managed and led. You’ll be responsible for the continued growth, evolution and development of the design discipline, leading a small visual design team by practice in concept development, integrating user-centred design and design practices into all of our projects. You will need to cover design leadership, workflow, staff management, financial management and reporting. You’ll also get the opportunity to engage in business development tasks, creating opportunities for long term growth.
It’s crucial that you have an understanding of open source software and tools, as you’ll champion alignment of design within agile open source projects, including training and coaching designers in the additional skills they may need to succeed in agile projects. You’ll develop and document best practice design frameworks & techniques to support designers in their decision making and problem solving, and encourage their use within Catalyst.
To succeed in this role, you will need to be experienced with creating high-level design deliverables, mobile-first and responsive design, balancing client goals and project realities, and be able to plan and conduct design activities such as creative and UX workshops. You will need to demonstrate creative thinking through your portfolio.
You will also need excellent relationship management skills to maintain both client relations and your team. You’ll need to be able to communicate in an open, engaging way with a range of people and also have exceptional organisational, time management and presentation skills.
